Piranha Games has released the launch trailer for their upcoming mech action-game MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries. The game is coming out on December 10th exclusively on PC via the Epic Games Store. Watch the trailer below!
The MechWarrior franchise is one of the oldest PC game series and put their stamp on the platform throughout the entire 1990s. With console adapting to 3D technology and gaining massive mainstream success, this also changed the PC landscape significantly. Overly complicated titles like MechWarrior became niche with many dying off. The last singleplayer entry was ages ago with MechWarrior 4 Vengeance.
The battlefields of the future are dominated by BattleMechs, hulking machines of war capable of leveling entire cities. As a BattleMech pilot you’ll rain havoc upon enemy ‘Mechs and targets, including tanks, ground vehicles, aircraft, advanced defenses, and reinforced bases.
Containing thousands of star systems and an array of unique biomes, the Inner Sphere is alive with activity, purpose, consequence, and variety. Systems will be captured and reclaimed, major events will unfold, and new technologies will be introduced.
With four-player co-op supported both within the campaign and the Instant Action system you can experience the full breadth of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries universe alongside your friends.
So, after close to two decades of negligence, MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries aims to rejuvenate one of the granddaddies of PC gaming with a full-on singleplayer campaign experience. A very welcome yet risky business decision in a time where multiplayer gaming is more prevalent than ever before. As a fan of the immersive simulation-like heavy-hitting mech-combat genre, we hope Mercenaries goes on to become a huge success and kickstarts other titles of the genre. This could end up even more difficult as MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries is an Epic Games Store exclusive. PC gamers haven’t really embraced the aggressive exclusivity-buyout policy by Epic. Here’s to the business decision not biting Piranha Games’ ass in the end.
