A big thank you to Zdenda1990 for his amazing Walkthrough. Without it I doubt I would be able to complete this. Here is his Walkthrough video right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zckwb0fP7So

  1. I'm glad my playthrough was helpful. I was so glad back then when I was finally done with this map. Since then I forgot most of my strategies that I used, but your walkthrough reminded me them. That hall of mirrors happened to me to. I'm guessing those are some missing or misaligned textures. And those enemies being stuck, I had that happen too. I think the Mancubi are just stuck on the edge of the ground because of bad placement, but the enemies that are stuck inside each other are like that because the Arch-Vile resurrected them that way…I guess. This walkthough has been one hell of a ride, but I have one question. I know that Scythe II won the Patreon poll as the next WAD walkthrough, but are you really sure you wanna do it as a next walkthrough right after this map? Because pretty much all the maps from 21 to 30 are painful just as much as Fire And Ice. Map23 is the reason why my playthrough of Scythe II is still on hold.

  2. You can really see BigMacDavis taking some mental damage when playing this. Good work finishing this superhard map, it seems even the gods of rng (or maybe DoomSlayer) are on your side as evident on those close calls. Additionally, I know one thing this map is good for: playing some superop mod, like Russian Overkill, and just demolish those demos with easy.

  3. Complevel 2… You mean Doom 2 v. 1.9? This is the actual level two. I also had the same problem with stuck monsters on top of each other, but I fixed it very soon. Ghosts also need to be on I think.

Minimize the game is easy – Alt+Esc. Always works for me.

  4. I'd say Fire and Ice is a fitting name for this map. They're opposites, just like Scythe as a whole and this map are opposites. You like scythe as a whole, a lot even if I'm not mistaken. But you absolutely do not like this map. So the game Scythe and its final map are like fire and ice. 😛

  5. Changing the compatibility level to 2 does not take effect until you start a new game. If you keep reloading from a save, it won't do anything. At 46:11, I believe that mancubus was stuck because he was partially over the ledge. Complevel 2 should fix that… monsters simply don't go over ledges in CL2. The monsters who are stuck together are probably due to complevel 11, which is pr/glboom's default setting.

50:35 Nothing ever retaliates against an archvile. They have 2 interesting exceptions when it comes to infighting: 1) nothing will ever intentionally attack an archvile, and 2) archviles will always turn to attack the last thing that hits them. All other monsters have a hysteresis during which they will not change targets if they were just hit by something. Not archviles… if you hit a vile and it starts to attack you, but then it receives damage from an imp, it will immediately change over to attack the imp.

    Well played! 🙂
