Devil May Cry 5 Devs ‘Learned a Lot’ from Ninja Theory DmC

Ninja Theory-developed DmC: Devil May Cry was a polarizing title for fans of the series but Capcom has previously said in no uncertain terms that it was satisfied with the project. In a new interview with Game Informer, Director Hideaki Itsuno reiterated this view.

Itsuno said that Devil May Cry‘s development team has learned “a lot” from Ninja Theory, and lauded the studio for being “style incarnate.”

“I went to Cambridge once every couple of months to work with those guys so we learned a lot from them,” recalled Itsuno. “Those guys are style incarnate, man. What they did with DmC, that art style, those animations, that is real style, y’know?”

Capcom developers are implementing some of the things they learned from Ninja Theory to Devil May Cry 5.

“For me, DmC is one of my favorite Devil May Cry games, if not my favorite,” Itsuno continued. “And we wanted to make the game [Devil May Cry 5] in a way that people who enjoyed that game will enjoy the way it controls, just as much as they enjoyed DmC.”

When asked if Capcom would consider working with Ninja Theory again in the future (not necessarily on Devil May Cry), Itsuno laughed and said that the company would “love” to work with the studio but would need clearance from Microsoft.

Devil May Cry 5 will release on March 8, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
